Renato Scapin, known at Tatu by friends and on social media, began his Capoeira journey in the late 1990s and has since been dedicating himself to the study of this art that is now recognised as a Brazilian cultural heritage.
In the mid-2000s, theater dances alongside with other arts, such as performing dance work in festivals, and the chance to direct musicals, improved his abilities.
To improve his studies, he graduated as a physical educator with a postgraduate degree in Psychomotricity. This led him to work with the motor rehabilitation of people with disabilities for almost a decade.
Today Tatu lives in Dublin where he created the group Capoeira Malandragem and the recent course “The Capoeirista’s Body as a Tool for Modern Dance”. Tatu sees Capoeira not just as a game or dance. Capoeira is an expression, a struggle for freedom. It’s fun, a philosophy of life, as an old Master once said: “Capoeira is everything the mouth eats”

At the age of 15, Cícero Gabriel left Paraná in search of something to do. He lived in Foz do Iguaçu and Pindamonhangaba. He traveled all over Brazil until he arrived in Campinas/São Paulo. He came across something he had never seen before and that soon became a great passion. This passion arose from a chance encounter on a trip to Santos/São Paulo. It was a capoeira circle with only five people by the sea. As fate would have it, returning to Campinas he found Mestre Tarzan's Beira Mar academy, who asked him the following question: – Do you want to take a class? And then he answered: – I want to start training.
He trained for years until he graduated as Mestre 1º Grau. Capoeira then became his profession from then on, his life was all about chasing circles, baptisms, events and new teachings. He competed in the 1987 São Paulo championship and won the title of middleweight champion. In the beginning, it was just leisure, he confesses. Where he met many people and met up with friends.
He met Mestre Suassuna in one of the courses he taught. He began to attend all the group's baptisms and, together with Mestre Suassuna, he went to Rio de Janeiro for the first time, where he met great Mestres such as Mestre Gato, Mestre Peixinho, Mestre Toni, Mestre Ramos, Mestre Paulinho Sabiá, among others.
In 1989, he was in Bahia, also for the first time, where Mestre Suassuna told him to look for Mestre João Pequeno and Mestre João Grande. It was there that he met and got to know, in addition to the two greatest figures in the world of capoeira angola, Mestre Luís Medicina, his old brother, as he himself refers to him, Mestre Jogo de Dentro, with whom he still exchanges knowledge. When invited to join the Cordão de Ouro (CDO) group, he did not hesitate and is very proud to be part of this great family.
“I must first thank God for giving me life and Mestre for teaching me the art, fighting, dancing and philosophy of life that is capoeira.
“To the one who taught me for the first time, Mestre Tarzan. To the great Mestre Suassuna who opened new horizons in capoeira for me with his teachings. And to all those who taught me so much.”

Bruno Antônio de Araújo Melo is a renowned capoeirista and martial artist who has dedicated his life to the development and dissemination of capoeira worldwide. Born in Brazil, Bruno began his capoeira journey at the tender age of 10 under the guidance of Mestre Jorge in Sete Lagoas, Minas Gerais. In 1997, he joined the esteemed Grupo Cordão de Ouro, led by Mestre Suassuna in São Paulo, where he honed his skills and deepened his understanding of the art form.
In 1999, Bruno organized his first major event in Sete Lagoas, which attracted capoeiristas from around the globe. This milestone marked the beginning of his journey as a respected figure in the capoeira community. In 2011, Bruno relocated to the United States, where he founded the International Capoeira School, further expanding his reach and influence.
After a brief stint in Belo Horizonte, Bruno returned to Sete Lagoas and established his own academy, where he spent nearly a decade developing his craft and mentoring students. In 2023, he made the bold decision to relocate to Italy, where he continues to share his passion for capoeira with a new audience. His inaugural event in Italy, held in July, drew a large contingent of friends and enthusiasts from across Europe.
Bruno's dedication to capoeira has taken him to numerous countries, including Israel, where he has played a significant role in promoting the art form. He holds a first-degree black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, earned through his affiliation with Gracie Barra, and is currently involved in various projects that combine capoeira and jiu-jitsu in Italy.
In addition to his martial arts pursuits, Bruno is also a talented musician. Alongside his wife, Glauciele Santana, he is part of the band Cipó Cravo, which produces and performs original music. Through his multifaceted endeavors, Bruno Antônio de Araújo Melo continues to inspire and enrich the lives of those around him, leaving an indelible mark on the world of capoeira and beyond.

Sansão Alysson Maia,
originally from Belo Horizonte (BH), first came into contact with Capoeira in 1981. His older brother, Fernando, who was already practicing capoeira, taught him the basics. He then went to train with his brother's Master, Negro Humberto, Capoeira Axé para Todos, trained by Master Dunga from Belo Horizonte.
He practiced capoeira on Mondays and Wednesdays and on Saturdays he trained at a social project called Criança de Dandara. He continued training with his first Master until 1990, when the master stopped due to health problems. That same year, he began training with the Porto de Minas capoeira group, where he personally met his second Master, who greatly inspired him and other capoeiristas, Master Negoativo.
In 1992, he began his journey teaching classes at the same project he had attended as a child. In 1996, he made his first tour of capoeira shows in Europe, starting in France in Marcellia in the south, then in Cologne, Germany and finally in Belgium in Lueven.
He arrived in Ireland in 2001, where he began capoeira classes with graduate Smorfet (in memory) where they held numerous presentations, workshops at festivals and introduced Capoeira to schools here in Ireland, an innovative activity, because no Irish person had heard of Capoeira until then.
They organized the first street roda in Grafton Street and the first capoeira baptism in 2002, the same year that the Football World Cup took place, which Brazil won. That same year, they organized the first Brazilian party in Ireland, where a Forró band performed, also the first in Ireland until then.
Today, Mestre Sansão continues with his consolidated capoeira work and has been active for more than two decades in Ireland. His contribution to the legacy of capoeira is immensely relevant to keep doors open in Ireland for future teachers. His courage in leaving his homeland behind and making a living from capoeira is much more than a life journey. It is an example of determination, perseverance and love for capoeira.
We are very grateful to be able to call Mestre Sansão our friend.

His journey in capoeira has been an incredible adventure that started far from where he is today. He was born in Braga, Portugal, but at the age of three, he moved to Canada. Growing up in Toronto, he found his passion for capoeira in the year 2000 when he began training with Mestre Bola, who was his teacher at the time and was part of the Axe Capoeira group.
In 2006, there was a significant shift when Mestre Bola left the group to form Capoeira Camara. This transition marked a new chapter in his capoeira journey, allowing him to expand his skills and understanding of this beautiful art form.
In 2010, he took another leap and moved to Cork, Ireland. It wasn't until 2013/2014 that he decided to establish Capoeira Cork, a community that allowed him to share his love for capoeira with others. Last year, they celebrated a remarkable milestone—10 years of Capoeira Cork!
In February 2023, he took another significant step forward by officially founding Capoeira Inspira. Today, he is proud to call Mestre Sansão his master, who continues to inspire him in his practice.
Since 2007, he has been teaching classes and leading workshops in Canada, the United States, Bermuda, and across Europe, including Ireland, Germany, Portugal, France, and the UK. Each experience has enriched his life and deepened his commitment to sharing capoeira with the world.
